This series consists of the records of Alabama Dept. of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) Directors Bill Rushton, Fred Braswell, and David Rumburger from 1983 to 1990. The bulk of the series documents the activities of the Law Enforcement Planning Division (LEPD) during those years and consists of grant applications and proposals by local governments and law enforcement agencies for financial assistance in dealing with juvenile delinquency, alcholism, illegal drug use, and domestic violence. Included are correspondence, memoranda, reports, and meeting agenda which reflect the department's involvement with organizations such as the Alabama Advisory Committee for Children and Youth, the Children's Trust Fund, the Advisory Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the Child Advocacy Center in Mobile, Ala., and the Missing Child Bureau of the Ala. Dept. of Public Safety. Also present to a lesser extent are correspondence, reports, memoranda, speeches, newspaper clippings, and legislation pertaining to economic development within the state. Subjects discussed include grant proposals by the Appalachian Regional Council to provide job training to unemployed and displaced workers in north Ala. and reports and hearings before the Coastal Resources Advisory Committee concerning requests by Exxon Corp. to expand oil drilling operations in Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Also included are routine correspondence, reports and memoranda pertaining to budgetary and personnel operations within the department.
